Job Title: AI Developer

We are seeking an experienced AI Developer to join our development team. If you are passionate about game AI, enjoy solving challenging technical problems, and want to work closely with AAA game studios, we want to hear from you.

As an AI Developer, you will work on Mercuna’s core AI navigation technology for games, helping to develop and improve the pathfinding, movement and navigation systems used by game developers around the world.

You will spend most of your time on hands-on C++ development, designing and implementing new features, improving existing systems, investigating technical problems, and optimising performance. You will work on challenging problems across a wide range of game environments, from large open worlds to complex indoor spaces.

You will also collaborate with other members of Mercuna’s development team on feature design, implementation and code review.

An important part of the role is working with game studios using Mercuna. You may help customers understand how best to use our technology, investigate issues encountered in their projects, and adapt Mercuna to meet the technical demands of different games and platforms.

Mercuna is a small company, so you will have significant visibility into the complete product development process and the opportunity to make a direct contribution to a product used by leading game studios.

Note that this role is in Navigation AI rather than Generative AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement new features for Mercuna’s AI navigation technology.
  • Develop and maintain high-performance C++ systems for games.
  • Investigate and resolve technical, performance and scalability issues.
  • Work with other developers on feature design, code reviews and technical problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with AAA game developers to understand their requirements and help them get the most from Mercuna’s technology.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Mercuna’s software architecture and development practices.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ professional experience in game AI, gameplay programming, engine programming or a closely related area.
  • Strong C++ programming skills.
  • Good understanding of software engineering principles and development best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and work effectively with complex software systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal developers and external game studios.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and deliver high-quality software to agreed timelines.

Desirable:

  • Experience developing AI systems for games.
  • Experience with navigation, pathfinding, movement or related algorithms.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine and Blueprint scripting.
  • Experience working on a commercially released PC or console game.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
